Difference between dental dry milling machines and dental wet milling machines

2024-09-24

With the development of digital dental technology, the cost of making dental restorations has been greatly reduced. The advent of dental milling machines is one of the manifestations of the progress in digital dental technology. Currently, there are mainly dental dry milling machines and dental wet milling machines on the market. What are the main differences between them?

Dental dry milling machine:

1. Typically used to process dental materials such as zirconia, PMMA, wax discs, and PEEK discs.

2. Does not require the use of cooling liquid during processing, so the machine is not designed with liquid nozzles and cooling systems.

3. May generate more heat and dust, thus requiring effective dust extraction and cooling measures.

4. Dry processing machines usually have a simpler structure and lower maintenance costs.

Dental wet milling machine:

1. Suitable for processing materials including titanium alloys and glass ceramics.

2. Uses cooling liquid during processing, which helps reduce cutting temperature, minimize thermal damage to materials, and reduce machine wear.

3. Wet processing can improve processing accuracy and surface quality, especially when processing harder materials.

4. The machine design includes liquid nozzles and cooling systems, which may require more complex maintenance.
