Steps and Precautions for Using Intraoral Scanners

2024-11-01

Oral scanning is a digital technique for obtaining dental impressions, used to generate three-dimensional oral models.

Steps and Precautions for Oral Scanning

Intraoral Scanning Steps

1.Patient Preparation: Patients need to thoroughly clean their oral cavity, especially the teeth and gum areas, before undergoing an oral scan.

2.Equipment Setup: Secure the probe or camera of the intraoral scanner in an appropriate position, ensuring stable contact with the patient's oral cavity.

3. Perform Scanning: The operator uses the software to control the device for scanning, moving the scanner to various parts of the patient's oral cavity according to the prompts, ensuring all details inside the oral cavity are captured.

4. Data Processing: The scanner transmits the acquired image data to a computer, where it is processed and reconstructed by software to generate a three-dimensional oral model.

5. Model Post-processing: For the generated three-dimensional oral model, subsequent processing such as model trimming, measurement, analysis, and export can be performed.

Precautions

1. Pre-scanning Preparation: Patients need to remove foreign objects in the oral cavity, such as dentures and mouthguards, to ensure the accuracy of the scan.

2. Scanner Operation: The operator needs to patiently and steadily operate the scanner to ensure comprehensive coverage and detail capture of the patient's oral cavity.

3. Sensitive Area Handling: For patients with sensitive teeth or gums, appropriate measures should be taken, such as not applying excessive pressure or administering local anesthesia in advance.

4. Integration of Other Data: To obtain more comprehensive and accurate information, oral scanning can be combined with other patient oral-related information such as X-ray films and oral photography, enhancing clinical judgment and processing capabilities.

5. Data Storage: The scanned data needs to be backed up and stored in a timely manner to prevent data loss or damage.
